Farnborough International Airshow…Talking Your Business

There’s no question that business aviation is a sector seeing rapid growth. EBACE, held at Geneva’s Palexpo, brings the industry together for a three-day exhibition and conference, and according to the show’s organisers, represents an opportunity to ‘conduct business and make buying decisions for the year ahead’.

Unlike yachts, which are invariably on view from plush harboursides, and luxury cars which have no choice but to share the road with everything from the banger to the Beemer, the business jet retains an air of mystery.

These planes fly private people from private airports; they represent a concentration of wealth that isn’t even accessible by view. However, as GQ Magazine reported in February, flights for group travel on board these pockets of luxury and convenience may not be as prohibitively expensive as they once were. In fact, at peak times they may even be the economic option. The piece explains that three groups travelling on a 13-seat aircraft could travel for as little as £538 per person, citing new technology and a willingness by owners to rent out aircraft as reasons why this particular velvet rope is lowering

Recognising the growing impact of this niche industry, the Farnborough International Airshow provides a valuable opportunity for the business jet to cast-off its shyness albeit to a much wider audience.  Since 2008, there has been a dedicated Business Aviation Park at the Airshow and this July the sector is to be represented by Airbus, Bombardier, Dassault, Embraer, Gulfstream, Piaggio, Pilatus and Textron.

As well enabling the wider aviation community to get a rare, up-close glimpse of these elegant aircraft, the Airshow hosts a delegation programme, which introduces manufacturers to potential customers for whom the convenience of business aviation is as valuable as privacy.

With innovation setting the theme for the 2018 Farnborough Airshow, it’s likely these haute aircraft will feature aspects of design and ingenuity that may make their way onto their bigger cousins.
